Thinkpad back from Repair Center

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

IBM Thinkpad T40pAfter a painfully long holiday weekend, my laptop is finally back from the IBM Repair Center. Fixed were the onboard LAN, WiFi, and USB 2.0 ports. I’m crossing my fingers that other components don’t start failing in the next few months. Prior to sending this machine in for service, my MS Office install was seriously flaking out, so I’m still thinking about wiping the system clean and doing a reinstall. Shitte!

Luckily, I lost no data during this time, and it did kick my lazy butt into backing up all my important files on the laptop.

Omnibook 500It lives again!

After gathering dust on a shelf, my HP Omnibook 500 laptop of past mobile computing glory is back in the daily rotation as a portable living room browsing machine.

This little thing sports a Mobile Pentium III/600, 512MB SDRAM, 40GB hard drive, 12.1-inch XGA TFT screen, 8MB ATI Rage Mobility M1 and a Belkin 802.11b/g wireless card. And all this at just 3.7 pounds in a 1 inch thick chasis.

I originally got this laptop back in 2002. Now, I just hope this machine can continue running smoothly as a modest living room laptop.
